His Father’s Son

I think I’ve mentioned Daddy’s love of stock car racing. He is desperate to race himself, but Mummy won’t let him for fear of what could happen. So he contents himself with dragging us to race meetings every now and then. I take a stack of books and beg for ice-cream, sweets, chips, airhorns, anything to create a diversion and get me through the day.

The Bug takes an altogether more fanatical stance on the event, showing up with his picnic chair and settling in for the duration. Does the pink Disney princess chair bother him? Not at all – it is functional and fit for purpose. Ditto his umbrella (see-through of course, he wouldn’t want to miss the action). I predict for him a long and happy childhood of sharing his father’s hobbies. As for me, Mummy – get your purse, we’re going shopping!

Now pop over to the Gallery and see the other 3 little words everyone is using today.

  1. I am with you on the shopping but I love it. It is great when parents and children have common interests. x

    • I just find myself bending my interests to fit with theirs so they pay me more attention. It’s amazing how interested a 44 year old can be in Moshi Monster trading cards if that’s all her daughter talks about. If you can’t beat’em join’em!

    • @HimUpNorth Oh God I never thought of that! At least he’d know enough about cars to fix mine for free. Maybe that could pay for all the old wrecks he’ll have to buy 😉

  2. Hmmm looks just like where I have spent many a day! No doubt dad2babyinsomniac will be trying to get Iyla into enjoying such things when she’s a bit older but I expect she will end up taking things to occupy herself too! 🙂

    • He started them young. As I recall Glib Girl’s first visit was before she was born. At 6 months pregnant I sat in the picnic chair and consumed a whole bag of cinder toffee (the awful kind you get at the kiosks there). Come to think of it maybe I am to blame for her need of distractions!

  4. It’s fab he and his dad will have something to share as he grows up. As for the shopping, Misses E and M love doing with me, so I’m sure you’ll have some fab times with your mummy too. 😀

  5. My son loves motorbikes, totally his Daddy’s influence -and it’s influencing me, I find myself in the car shouting ‘motorbike’ when I spot one….. if you can’t beat them X

    • I try to avoid encouraging them. I do often shout ‘cow’ or ‘horse’ when travelling – I think it only amuses me nowadays but maybe I’m becoming the irrelevant Mum they will eventually expect me to be!

  6. Little boys just love shadowing their Dads. How lovely that they will have a shared interest as your son gets older, time for just the two of them x

  7. Ditch the racing and come shopping with me – they won’t even notice we’re gone by the looks of it!
