Once again I am taking part in the gorgeous Dear Beautiful Boy’s Inspired linky, but this time I am on a mission to create me a cake that could win me an original drawing by Emma Chichester Clark, the illustrator behind one of our favourite books, Blue Kangaroo. All I need is to get inspired to create an edible book!
Hmmmm. “What,” you may ask, “is an edible book?” “Quite literally that!” would be my answer! The Edible Book Festival is being held on the lovely blog Playing By the Book, where we are invited to join in by creating anything edible, so long as it is inspired by a book in some way.
So I could make a Blue Kangaroo and conjure up in cake form those bedtime stories with Mummy from my toddler days, when I would snatch the book and turn it back to the start as many times as I could before bedtime, knowing it was a difficult one for her to resist. Or I could just photograph a glass of wine and a cold pasta dish, which was what awaited Mummy when she finally did make it downstairs
In an effort to come up with an inspired creation I have turned to the Edible Book Festival’s Pinterest Inspiration board. Here are a few of my favourites so far (click on the images to be directed to the orignal photo and post):
This is my absolute favourite! How could this fail to win?? But, alas, someone already did it.
Another masterpiece I cannot hope to emulate
See? It doesn’t have to be cake!
Well, it’s edible, but I’d rather have it toasted with strawberry jam…
A little bit of parmesan and here you have a whole meal on one page!
Grrrr! I need an inspired idea for a winning platter of booky food. All suggestions welcome!
I am also doing something yummy by sharing these ideas with Love All Blogs. They are supporting Clic Sargent, the children’s cancer charity this week by hosting a linky all about cake!

that is such an amazing idea. Perfect for world book day week as well. Love the caterpillar:)

What a great idea and some of those edible ideas looked yummy! I would rather make something edible than find a costume for world book day so I may suggest this to the school! I will be interested to see what you come up with!

Thanks so much for spreading the word about the Edible Book Festival. I’m sure you’ll come up with a fabulous idea! What’s your favourite picture book with food in it? What’s you’re all time favourite children’s book? Could either of these inspire your creation? Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
