Wot so Funee? Signs my children are getting older

2014-03-30 Mother's Day 001 (640x630)Mother’s Day, as always, was bliss. I saw some tweets bemoaning the fact that children make for a less than perfect (ie. relaxing) day, but that is not so for me. My children, at 9 and 6, are incredibly good company, well-behaved (mostly), thoughtful, and capable of helping their Dad in the kitchen. Happily, despite his usual tendency to chaos, and his penchant for chilling out, Actually Daddy pulls out all the stops on Mother’s Day. I know, I’m lucky.

Signs my children are getting older

I am very partial  to the children’s usual shopping list – what’s not to like about pic ‘n’ mix? But this year I spied this River Island bag on a shopping  trip with my daughter. I pointed it out to her and suggested she might like to drop hints to her dad. They duly shopped whilst I was running for Sport Relief last weekend. I was greeted yesterday with the excited smiles I’m happy to wake up early for. Then, a moment of uncertainty clouded GG’s face as she handed over her package, and she looked to my husband:

“Dad, did you put the receipt in there?”

She totally gets it…

  1. Excellent! I can’t wait till Kitty is a bit older and can do the same with Papasaurus – in the meantime I am going to have to suffer ‘Princess’ PJs with Disney characters on purely because Kitty likes them!

    • I’m getting to the stage where I’ll wear anything if it gets them to bestow me with a hug. I have some extra fleecy pj’s that are way too warm for this weather but I wear them every night because they make the Bug melt onto me when I get him up for a wee before I go to bed 🙂

  2. Hahaha, that’s great. One of the first things my mum (and my “other mum” – like a second mum but a friend really) said when BG was born, was that now I had a girl, at least I’d get good pressies as she got older! Seems like GG is doing you proud. x

  3. Looks like GG is doing you proud with the pressies. Way to go. I hope MM will help Mr P when she gets older he isn’t always the best alone. Glad you had a fab mothers’ day.

  4. Smart girl, you taught her well! If that’s the River Island bag you got for Mother’s day, then I’m insanely jealous right now.

  6. Wow, you obviously have your daughter very well trained! We spent Mother’s Day collecting our youngest daughter from university and after 6 hours on the motorway, returned home to find that the eldest had cooked for all of us – one v. impressed Mum!
